Purchased in February of 2001 by The Light Connection and its President Frank Giotto, The BrightSide was in need of much repair. Modern conveniences of the 1910 era are different than what we expect in modern times. In 1910, every room had a bowl and pitcher for washing and a chamber pot below. There was also one small sink in the hallway for guests to utilize. To this point, we have added 5 bathrooms.
Where there once sat a large, bulky coal-burning furnace in the center of the basement, is a highly efficient propane furnace accompanied by one more on each of the three floors, as well as a Central Air System.
The long neglected windows have had broken panes replaced and the buildings foundation repaired. There has been porches added on the East and South sides, which have become one of the favorite spots for our guests to sit and unwind. The old wood shed housing the ancient, but original, generator with the large, glass storage batteries is gone.
The generator now stands proudly at the Adirondack Museum. A fresh coat of paint has made the outside of The BrightSide look welcoming under a new roof, made to look original. Both new and antique furniture has been purchased to make all of our visitors stays as relaxing and comfortable as possible.
More projects are on the way, but we are on track to return The BrightSide on Raquette to its place as a paradise on the shoreline of Raquette Lake.
Currently, The BrightSide is being used to conduct Corporate Training and Events by Fiber Instrument Sales, The Light Connection, and FGR, which Frank owns. Now, it is being offered to outside companies and private groups to do the same.
